King K. Rool is quite possibly one of the most complex characters in the Super Smash Bros. series. Not only is his move set one of the most deep and engaging things in interactive history, but you could say that his character arc is quite moving too. Forced to eat bananas for most of his youth, Rool experienced a tough awakening. Through fighting in the Smash leagues he proves to the rest of the world that bananas aren't the only food in the world, while also coming to terms with how his childhood made him who he is and learning to love them in the end. He became so popular that he was eventually introduced as an antagonist in the Donkey Kong series, although his characterization differs between the two franchises.
